Vice Admiral Karambir Singh taking over as the Next Cheif of Naval Staff
The Government have appointed Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Presently Flag Office Commander -in-Chief ( FOC-in-C ) Eastern Naval Command as next Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba retires on the same day .
Born on November 03, 1959 , Vice Admiral Karambir Singh is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington & College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai and has served as Directing Staff in both these institutions.He was commissioned on July 01, 1980 into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy . During his long distinguished service spanning nearly 39 years , he has served in a variety of Command , Staff and Instructional appointments . Vice Admiral Singh's Sea Command Includes Guided Missile Destroyers INS Rana and INS Delhi . He also served as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and was Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat area . Before taking over as FOC-in-C Eastern Naval Command in October 2017 , he was Director General Project Seabird , Deputy Chief of Naval Staff and Vice Chief of the Naval Staff.
India Joins Select Group of Nations , Destroys Live Satellite In Low Earth Orbit
On March 27, 2019 Defence Research and Dvelopment organisation ( DRDO ) saccessfully conducted as Anti - Satellite ( A-SAT ) missile test " Mission Shakti " from the Dr AP J Abdul Kalam island in Odisha . A DRDO- developed Ballistic Missile Defence ( BMD ) Interceptor Missile successfully engaged an Indian orbiting target satellite in Low Earth Orbit ( LEO ) in a " Hit to Kill " mode . The interceptor missile was a three - stage missile with two solid rocket boosters . Tracking data from range sensors has confirmed that the mission met all its objectives .
The test has demonstrated the Nation's capability to defend its asset in outer space. It is a vindication of the strength and robust nature of DRDO's programmes .With this test, India joins an exclusive group of space faring nations consisting of USA, Russia and China
With this India Joins a select group of nations , which have such capability . The test has once again proven such capability , The test has once again proven the capability of indigenous weapon systems. At the same time, the government is committed to ensuring the country’s national security interests and is alert to threats from emerging technologies. The capability achieved through the Anti-Satellite missile test provides credible deterrence against threats to our growing space-based assets from long range missiles, and proliferation in the types and numbers of missiles.
